Simple Things

Sometimes it’s as simple as lighting a candle… I need to pay attention to all the little things and not take them for granted, I like lists so here you go…

  • lighting candles
  • the beautiful fall colors, and how awesome the street looks right now
  • getting to wear sweaters again
  • pumpkins and corn stalks
  • pumpkin spice lattes from starbucks
  • apple cider
  • shorter days, longer shadows
  • getting to see cotton fields blooming
  • rain boots in all different colors
  • sleeping in on dark, rainy days
  • sitting by the fire outside
  • the smell of burning of leaves
  • seasons changing…

Out Here

sunset field

I’ve been slacking around here the past week, and sadly have nothing but a sunset over a field to show you. I am hoping to get some time this week to spend in the studio and continue my Lil Bugs series. It has been slow going with my art lately, but hopefully soon I will get some energy and pick up the momentum. It is a challenge balancing everything in life, but one of these days I hope to figure it out.

Time to get going on this day, Happy Monday!

Head In The Clouds

Happy Monday!! Not much content around here the past few weeks, and I guess life happens sometimes. I’ve been finding it extremely difficult to find some solid time to just sit down and type out a post already. I have also found it difficult lately to dedicate some time to creating. I plan on changing that. I don’t know about you, but I have the hardest time balancing everything in my life, and especially when unexpected things come up (like a trip to the dmv to renew my license before the fee goes up) I tend to find that time to gets away from me. The big important stuff always gets done, it is a priority after all, but the little things like making art, or reading a book, or just spending some time on the web those always go to the backburner.

So I have cleared my schedule for today, and look forward to spending some solid hours in the studio. In hopes that I will have something more exciting to share around here in the coming days and weeks.

Autumn Change

Leaves slowly changing, until the whole forest explodes into a multitude of colors. All equally eye-catching, all making me want to use the color palette that nature created. Nature inspiring change.
As the cool autumn air moves in, and signals change all around me, I can’t help but contemplate some of the changes I want to make. I have not lifted a paintbrush, or even a pencil for well over two weeks. That needs to change. I find the things I am wanting to paint and draw have changed. Change is scary, it is awkward, and makes me want to hide. It signals growth, sometimes change is something we force, and sometimes it is out of our control.
Alas, I am not sure where I am going with these thoughts, but that is what is on my mind lately.

The Places I Go

One of my favorite places to visit is Door County, Wisconsin. I’ve been going up there every summer for the past 12 or so years. Just about every night we spend up there we go down to Sunset Park in Fishcreek and watch the sun slowly slide down behind the water of the bay. It never gets old and I have to tell you I have a ton of pictures of sunsets from up there. I never get tired of looking at them and find that I instantly relax as I am taken back to those sunsets. I just spent a few days up there recently and though my life has gotten rather stressful lately with just a lot of stupid stuff that really isn’t worth stressing about I realize that I need to take more time to take myself back to those sunsets. To relax, to remember that there is an amazing world out there and I don’t want to miss all those moments because I am stressing out over things that aren’t really at the core of living…

Just my philosophical thought of the month.
