So, I went and did it, I signed up for Sketchbook Skool!
It just started up last week and i’m already inspired to keep a legit sketchbook by my side at all times. I’ll get back to you in a month or two and we will see how well I keep this up. Me and sketchbooks have never really been a thing, the same goes for journals. I usually only use a sketchbook in my studio when I’m thinking up ideas, or trying to figure out a layout for a painting. That is often where these books stay.
A couple years ago I decided I would use my journal as a sketchbook too, and though I do sketch in my journal as well as write, that lovely book of goodness is kept bedside and pulled out every week or so. Whenever the mood strikes I will write, sketch a little and then put it away for awhile.
Life is busy, that is just what happens.
The thing is though, now that I’ve upgraded my purse to a larger bag that can now accommodate a smallish sketchbook and a pencil bag, I’m finding that there are a lot of moments to pull this bad book out and sketch something up. In waiting rooms, at restaurants, in the car, and pretty much whenever I would normally pull out my phone I am instead reaching for my sketchbook. It hasn’t even been a week, but I am trying to keep this book by my side as often as possible, and am making more time to sketch. It has left me more inspired, itching to get into my studio to paint, and excited about trying out some new art tools. Like hello fun pens and markers!
I’m just beginning this journey, and I hope that this six week stint in sketchbook skool helps to start a daily habit for me. I’ll keep you posted on this journey. What can you do today to get a daily sketchbook practice going? or any daily practice for that matter?
