Something New

It started last week when I saw the work of Kate Slater and was so inspired by her collage work that I just had to try it myself. I’ve tried before to work collage into my artwork before, and though I add bits here and there I never really just went all out. This piece is a major step outside my comfort zone! It has made my studio look like a tornado has come through as there are bits of paper everywhere, and since I pulled out every last scrap I could find just to get the colors right there is a floor full of paper, and a table, and it is even inching its way onto my keyboard and scanner. A major change from my painted pieces, or even my illustrations.

So here I am in the midst of a crazy art adventure, a journey that will either circle me back to where I started, move me into a whole new direction, or well just be a cool little detour. Either way I’m amazed at how this process has let me not think too much about the outcome but focus more on the creating. Something I have been working towards getting back to the past few months.
